I know you don't know me.

That's a comfort. Nothing you say can hurt me, yet I am still curious. Curiosity is the saviour of arrogance. Do I know? Well, let's hear your opinion and there's no risk in that, no pain. Just wonder, and my opportunity to grow.

I've been asking a lot of questions about BodyChance these days: how about your practise, your biz? I am discovering questions open doors, so start with the big one.

Start with your why. What motivates you to be in this profession?

I have been through many whys.

A few years ago I decided to drop my obsessive list-making.

I wanted to see what happened...

Nothing. Life carried on much the same. I messed up just about the same. BodyChance kept growing. The complaints against me didn't get disportionately bigger.

It wasn't a breakthrough, but nor was it a breakdown.

Huh?

I marvelled at the ease of it all. I stopped taking notebooks to meetings. I just took me: my mind, my awareness, my instinct, my intuition. I listened, I reacted, I decided and I forgot.

Or did I?

I don't think I forgot.

I blog for entirely selfish reasons.

I blog for me, not you. Of course I am thinking of you as I blog, but the only reference I really have is me. I am all I know. As Katie often points out: "No two people have ever met." You are my projection, and it can never be any other way.

I have been reading Richard Koch's (no relation) 80/20 Principle to decide if I will spend $10,000+ flying to Chicago in September to be part of his 3 day seminar on the Star Principle.

The Star Principle is a biz concept Richard built atop of the 80/20 Principle, and it helped him amass a fortune of $250 million. You don't often find guys like this giving seminars - good to listen. Not cheap.

Two lines jumped out at me, one funny, one serious. First the funny one:

Having spent 10 years at school, I got hard-wired into believing that weekends and evenings are rest times. I still have a deep-seated unconscious urge to relax on the weekend. Only problem is - I am in the a service industry, and weekends and evenings is when everyone else is available!

That's one aspect of my unconscious time habits. The other, subtler influence is how I am unconsciously driven to use the time I have.

People ask me: why am I so against tablework, hands-on practise and teaching individually?

Good question.

I ask it to my Self often, because it appears I am against the flow of an entire profession. All three of these are revered and valued, yet here I am stating unequivocally that I do not support this vision of our work.

No wonder I get attacked.

I don't see it as attack though, I see it as people defending their own position. Fair enough. What else can you do when someone (like me) appears to be undermining all that you hold valuable in your work?

I awoke at 3.38am this morning (in horror as I checked my iPhone) knowing I was awake and that this was the end of sleep. I have a full day of teaching ahead (it's 8.10am now) and I felt anxious, troubled - without an ability to say: "It is this."

How many times have you awoken in this condition? Dreading the day ahead, wondering how to escape it? It has been awhile for me, but life has a wonderful habit of giving the lesson you need most, when you need it most. Time for me to learn more about me again.

Recently, I felt I wasn't doing enough for you all in ATSuccess Basic, and then it was time to post this summary of my answers to your questions for the last two weeks… 2,420 words.

Students are exclaiming: we came to learn Alexander Technique!

Yes, well - of course. I do get that.

But how do you define Alexander Technique?

There are two ways to define Alexander Technique:

1.Alexander Technique is what Alexander discovered.
2.Alexander Technique is a way of teaching what Alexander discovered.
