Michiko is a new student at BodyChance, but already runs here own studio, with classes at two different locations, in slightly different niches. She one of a new breed of students at BodyChance – already successful practitioners in their own field, excited by the possibility of bringing Alexander's Discoveries into their niche.

Niche is such a detailed subject, I have been devoting more time to blogging about that, rather than sharing some of the inspirational stories I have been receiving from teachers who are getting on with building their businesses. Today I have two reports to share.

Fear is legitimate, but not smart.

There’s a book by Seth Godin called Linchpin which talks about the reptilian brain, and how fear in that area is hard to rationalize or understand. We all know it. The deep-bellied gnawing sensation that eats away confidence, vitality and life. I had it this morning for no specific reason. I could think of many reasons why I felt that, still do a little, but none of them add up to what I experience. I don’t have any “causally related” feeling that says “Oh that’s why.” It just is.

For those of you that followed my series of emails on the planning of BCLA, I am happy to report that Brett started today working as the first BodyChance entrepreneur swinging his tongue in America. I flew in from Mullumbimby in Australia this morning, then drove down to San Diego today chatting with Brett about the new studio. We met up with others for a late night chat, and now I am finally a getting to my blog (although I already wrote another one to-day - see below).

I am reposting this blog with my comments added. Today, Franis added a comment below, starting with the question: "It sounds like a plan, doesn't it?" and my basic answer is "Not yet." You are on the way, but until you get specific about finding the real people who can be spoken to without having a budget the size of Apple to find them, your plan is incomplete. I think Franis is an interesting and creative person, and the perspective of my comments is focused on how she can make a living as a teacher of Alexander Technique.

1. What drives you towards this career?

I heard to-day that I was not to be invited to a meeting of teachers in LA next Sunday to talk about how they might support each other getting their Alexander Technique practices a little busier. On that day I am in LA, I am available and I (was) willing to attend.

I had heard about this meeting two weeks ago, and I believed I could help them with specific advice to their questions, so I rearranged my schedule in Japan – spending money to change the date on my Japanese return ticket – so I could be in LA for that Sunday meeting.

1. What drives you towards this career?

Our friends all suffer from our personality disorders, yet we rarely see or understand them ourselves - although these days I am coming to notice my own more clearly. To me it is perplexing - why is that a problem for other people? How can I possibly change this aspect of myself? Is it my problem or theirs? Finding answers only comes when the information about the disorder is clear.
