This is the mind of a person in serious conflict.

Yesterday I was rabbiting on about wanting what you don’t like. You do your taxes even when you don’t like it, right? Happens every day. However, unless you are awake to it, you will can your life harder than necessary. You add garbage to something that can be done cleanly.

The operating principle here is: you don’t have to like it, to want it.

Since I invited Pecs Minor to the party, man are "my guys" having fun or what?!

Pecs Minor is a muscle: one of "my guys" = Pectoralis Minor. Pecca for short.

Thanks to Don (not Burton, Weed, but the Burton started all this 40 years ago) I recently discovered my little Pecca.

My little Pecca is behaving in scurrilous manner, getting away with all kinds of mischief for a number of years now.

When I first started my school in Japan, I once wanted to die.

Not suicide, but almost. Because something happened…

And I reacted badly to it.

I was washed away by a tsunami of emotions so brutal that, for a moment, I wanted to drown. I wanted to escape from a darkness so overwhelming, it took my breath away.

I was co-teaching a workshop in Kyoto, in 2001.

It happened twice.

Two different people. Different days. Same result.

We are walking along the river, talking about a myriad of topics, in a free-flowing conversation. We jump from one topic to another – laughing, scowling, celebrating, worrying – it’s hard to keep track.

You know those kind of conversations?

I am usually the one who says “What was I saying?” Then some young thing quickly recites a full list of the last five ideas and how they connected.

Except, I was the young thing this time.

People come to us in pain, full of theories why.

Most of them wrong.

As purveyors of Alexander's discovery, we know the hidden habit that dictates the pain students are experiencing.

And the reason is shocking in its simplicity.

You are co-ordinating your actions by increasing your downward moving contractions of head/spine and arms – reverse that, all will be better.

People look at us like we are mad. What are you talking about?

“Rafferty Rules” was the biggest day in my little 5 year old life.

To my magical baby mind, that was, like – incomprehensible. Anything? I can do anything? What will I do? I know, stay up late. Which was about all I could think of (since in those days no one was obsessed about sugar intakes).

Right now I am in the process of ripping apart my past to find a way to my future.

Contained within my past is a modus operandi that I conceive holds back my ability to act effectively and efficiently. To get to the future, I think I need to understand my past.

Maybe you identify this same tendency in you? I am certainly not alone in this…

Senses are reliable.
Senses are unreliable.

Depending on how you think – both are true, and neither are right.

It’s a bit like light as particles or light as waves. Whichever conceptual approach you take, you find irrefutable evidence to support your concept. That is, until you think differently.

Isn’t all life like that?

“Mad Major” John Boyd, quoted above*, is an undeclared American hero. 

Personally I am not a fan - war is not a arena that engages my respect – and I am not fool enough to ignore valuable insights into human behaviour from whence ever they arise.

Boyd declared this idea to his phenomenally successful American fighter pilots, and the idea is also a central premise within Alexander’s evolutionary theory. It’s all carefully laid out in by F.M. in his laboriously written first section of CCCI, but it’s way more interesting to consider Boyd’s take on the subject.

One of my close family friends always dreams of a biz that will do itself.

A few years ago, she came into a large swop of cash. Money in hand, she sought out an online biz that was delivering profits monthly without too much work. She paid a lot of money to acquire the biz, and then her nightmare started…

It’s every entrepreneur’s dream to find an easy biz like that, and that is mostly what it is. A dream. Within two years my friend had lost all her cash, her fancy car and even her family home. All gone.

No business does itself.
