Case Study #1: Basil Kritzer
Basil Kritzer - an American born in Hong Kong and raised in Japan - was my first ATSuccess client. This is where you could be in a few years if you join ATSuccess Pro and start following my simple 12 step process…
Of course, it wasn't ATSuccess back in those days, and there were no 12 steps.
It was just two guys trying to figure out how to make an Alexander Technique business pay. One of them (me) had an edge on the other! I mentored Basil in how to develop his biz. He was my very first client.
In those days, Basil was a trainee and I had just formed a company and registered the trade mark BodyChance. We were pulling in about $250,000 a year, and things were not as bright as they are today.
Basil came to me and asked: "How do I get more French Horn students?"
I answered: "You blog about what you are learning at BodyChance."
Basil is a supreme implementer. I had hardly finished my sentence and Basil was whipping out his computer, quickly making notes for his first blog.
Did this ATSuccess strategy work for Basil?
First he got horn students, plenty of them. That was while he was still a trainee. Soon I invited Basil to come work for BodyChance and our first step was to decide upon his niche.
He decided upon the Music, specifically the French horn --> wind instruments --> musicians generally. There are now a lot of French horn players studying at BodyChance!
Today, Basil runs the Music division of BodyChance that brings in more than $500,000 a year.
Through his own marketing efforts, using what he learned, he built Music Pro school. There are now 52 people enrolled in Basil's Music Pro school. The 52 new teachers of the work dedicated to working with Musicians. This is a profession-changing effort. It is something you can do when you clarity your purpose towards a definite community of people.
Basil only teaches about 20% of those classes. BodyChance supports his Music school, that is the way he has organized his teaching life.
He has a lot of fun doing what he loves - reaching out to the music community, writing books, travelling around Japan introducing the work to High School students, professionals and enthusiastic amateurs.
Basil is doing exactly what he wants to be doing with his life, every day.

You probably don't believe that you can do stuff like I do… I didn't either!
When I was studying the now called 12 steps, and when I read testimonials of people (not Alexander people though) succeeding in their business, I never imagined I would be introduced as one of them to the Alexander community.
The important thing is, that I'm still learning, studying and implementing the 12 steps. And I still don't believe that I can become one of those mega-success people you see in the business world. But I have to tell you, it's the structure of the 12 steps that just keeps pushing you towards success, if you keep implementing it. It's inevitable.

You might be thinking – “Oh others can do this, just not me.”
That's a common thought for many people. You read Basil's story and you think – "Basil is special. I don't have those talents. How I can be confident that I can do this too?"

Case Study #2: Michiko Hatakenaka
Michiko was my second serious student in Japan.
While Basil is a Young Turk like Peter, Michiko is not that.
Michiko is a married, middle-aged woman who had a corporate career before making a brave decision to leave her job and begin studying Alexander's Discovery at BodyChance.
Michiko decided to use her life's savings to do this, taking a huge risk.
How's that working out for her?
Here's a list of her accomplishments in the last two years:
- She has successfully launch a 2-year Certificate program for Yoga Instructors. Currently she has 6 students signed up, with plans to add another 6 by next year. (I teach for Michiko!)
- Each member is paying $300+ monthly for the next two years at least. You do the math. Any way you slice it, she's had a huge success.

I'm really glad that I participated 12 steps seminar and Jeremy's CareerThinking program in Tokyo. I wouldn't be able to build 2-year certificate course for yoga instructors without his help and following 12 steps (I have 6 students in the course now).
Jeremy's 12 steps gave me a lot of eye opening answers to many wonders and barriers I had around marketing.

Before I joined ATSuccess, I had a steady practice but nothing seemed to help expanding it further, which I have been wanting to do. I was always aware I was at a disadvantage from not having a specific niche, but was not interested in traditional marketing.
Using ATSuccess resources, I discovered everyone could find a specific niche if they looked for it. I also discovered Education Based Marketing that seemed more in line with who I am.
Today I have chosen a niche and have focused on it for a little over 6 months. I have had lots of positive results which makes me feel I am building something concrete that will have its blooming days. For instance,
- I created a blog that built up 2500 views only in this short time;
- I have made acquaintance and started working with professionals from my new niche;
- People are starting to refer clients or connect with me to do something in the near future.
I am not at the end of the tunnel, but there is still light piercing through as I go the distance.

But it Costs Too Much - How Can I Afford it?
Wrong question.
Can you afford not to do it?
Reflect a little - how much did you know when you were on your own?

The overwhelming answer is: not well.
A survey by STAT showed that only 5% of graduated teachers actually made a living out of the work. What do you want to do – go back to a "real" job or change the world?

I had a personal coach - Paul Lambert - for 18 months. We talked by Skype once a week, and I had a day's live training with him. Cost to me? $3,000 per month.

Is it a linear process? Or is it chaotic and intuitive?

Building a business oriented primarily to musicians took a huge leap of faith for me, but once I stopped hesitating, I haven't looked back once.
