How To Live to 100+
by Jeremy ChanceThe light is fading away in Tokyo as I write.
It's been a day of rest, love and thoughtful engagement. Do you rest?
I started to schedule in a full day of total rest after watching Dan Buettner's TED talk on "How to live to be 100+" - which is definitely on my list of things to accomplish.
He studied different communities around the world - where elders regularly reached 100+ years - and found a number of common features. One of these features was the complete day of rest every week.
Day of rest is probably the wrong name. Doing-different day is better.
Sunday has been traditionally such a day in our society, and yet it is increasingly meaningless, as the complexity of the world thickens. Sunday is almost always a work day for me in Japan.
The purity of the day is important in my experience.
Doing my Daily has disrupted this cycle, which is why I decided just now to change it to 6 times a week, one day off. I get to decide the day - my life is too chaotic to create a single, sacred day every week, as some religious people manage to do.
I probably shouldn't be writing today, and I am.
However, in future, on my day of rest, I will not.
Why don't you think of planning a weekly do-different-day, if you don't already?
I am going back to enjoy mine!
